Why is it most disabled loos are just average height? After hip replacements, you get told to have a loo seat raiser, or one of those frames that go over the toilet. Its all very well disabled loos having pull down grab rails but they're not much good when you have weak arthritic upper limbs and a stiff hip.

I seized my opportunity to air my views today at my local hospital. The supervisor was inspecting the state of the room and writing down her observations, so she agreed to include mine above. She said the loo is the right height for wheelchair users to transfer, but she'd suggest a raised seat or frame be made available too.

Glad you've raised this point. My hubby Alan has a colostomy and so has to use the 'facilities' in a disabled loo at times-he actually has to KNEEL DOWN on those yucky floors when he is in there as everything is at the wrong height for what he has to do. I've known him to come out with soaking wet trousers knees from a wet floor, yuck. AND he is immuno supressed too.

I agree Carol- it almost seems as if they are just doing the bar minimum to 'tick the boxes'. My knees are weak so I struggle to get on and off a normal height loo- I'm not in a wheelchair so the pull down rails aren't much use as they are too low- that's if I can pull them down in the first place.
Julie- that's awful. He has enough to cope with , without suffering the indignity you describe.

Maybe we should start campaigning for improved disabled loos????
